Printing with Purpose: creating opportunities through Indigenous procurement

Meet Printing with Purpose

Printing with Purpose supplies SCS Indigenous (SCSi) and the wider SCS Group with promotional merchandise, branded products and uniforms. This Indigenous Business Month, we’re sharing the story behind the Aboriginal-owned social enterprise and how our purchasing decisions can support opportunities beyond the original order.

Founded by Sara Stuart, a proud Kamilaroi woman, Printing with Purpose is a 100% Aboriginal, female-owned and managed printing manufacturer and social enterprise.

Its team brings more than 30 years of combined experience across printing, design and communications. Behind that capability is a clear purpose: improving social and economic participation and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Creating pathways through business

Printing with Purpose has built its business model around creating employment and training pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

By delivering quality printing and communications services, the business aims to generate secure, sustainable employment and help address the barriers that can limit participation in the economy.

It is a Social Traders certified social enterprise and a member of Supply Nation and the Kinaway Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce.

For customers, this means their purchasing can support an Aboriginal business that is working to create opportunities for others. As the business grows, so does its potential to invest in people, develop skills and support greater self-determination.

That approach resonates with us at SCSi.

A supplier we know and recommend

SCSi and SCS Group regularly use Printing with Purpose for promotional merchandise, branded products and uniforms.

Much of the merchandise visitors saw at our Supply Nation Connect event in Perth was supplied through their team. These products helped us present our business and connect with people at the event, while creating work for another Aboriginal supplier.

Our experience has been positive. We have found their pricing competitive, their service responsive and their turnaround times reliable. They are easy to deal with and understand the commercial expectations that come with supplying a business.

That combination gives us confidence to keep working with them and recommend them to others.

Printing expertise and a broad range of services

Printing with Purpose combines its manufacturing capability with an established network of industry contacts, print professionals, Aboriginal artists and designers.

This allows the team to help customers with a wide range of requirements, coordinate production and oversee quality from design through to delivery.

Its capabilities include:

  • Corporate printing, including brochures, annual reports, business cards and stationery.
  • Signage and displays for workplaces, retail environments and events.
  • Uniforms, workwear and branded clothing.
  • Promotional merchandise and branded products.
  • PPE clothing and equipment.
  • Graphic design and Indigenous-inspired design.

The business services clients nationally, supported by a full-scale manufacturing facility.

For organisations reviewing their suppliers, there are several practical opportunities to involve Printing with Purpose, from an upcoming event or uniform order to an annual report or new workplace signage.

Building a circular Indigenous economy

Sara speaks about the importance of a circular Indigenous economy, where Aboriginal businesses support one another and help create opportunities that strengthen families and communities.

At SCSi, we see our supply chain as one way to contribute.

When a client chooses SCSi, the opportunity created can extend beyond the original contract. We purchase products and services from businesses such as Printing with Purpose, which can then use that work to support their own people, suppliers and community initiatives.

Each purchasing decision has the potential to create further opportunities.

This is the multiplier effect of Indigenous procurement. A contract can help one business grow, while its spending creates work for others. Over time, these relationships can help build a stronger Aboriginal business economy.

Commercial performance and purpose working together

Our relationship with Printing with Purpose is built on the quality of what they deliver.

Competitive pricing, good communication and dependable service matter to us. Their Aboriginal ownership and social purpose add further value to a relationship that works commercially.

For organisations looking to strengthen their Indigenous procurement, everyday purchasing is a useful place to start. Printing, uniforms, signage and merchandise are products many businesses already need.

Giving a capable Aboriginal supplier an opportunity to quote can open the door to a lasting business relationship. It can also support employment, training and business growth through spending that is already part of your budget.
